Short hair is one of my favorite types of hair to style, not just because it’s easy to manage, but because it has so much versatility.

It can be layered, one length, asymmetrical or even stacked — the possibilities are endless! Check out these short haircuts and see if there’s one that you can make work for your hair!

#1 The Textured Pixie

This cute pixie has so much movement and texture. You can’t go wrong with this look!

1Cute-Pixie-Haircut-with-Texture

How To Style:

Begin with damp hair. Use your fingers to roughly dry it.
Once hair is dry, apply a texture cream or pomade to make your hair look more piecy and textured.
If more hold is needed, apply a strong hold hairspray.

Recommended Products:

To get a bit of texture and separation at the ends, try using Davines’ Invisible Serum. It has a bit of tack to it, so it will give you more of a lived-in look.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This look is great if you have an oval or heart shaped face. Medium textured hair with a bit of wave is ideal.

#2 The Modern Mohawk

This edgy, trendy look is an absolute favorite of mine. It’s a new take on a classic mohawk and a great way to show off short hair!

2Edgy-Short-Haircut-with-Mohawk

How To Style:

Begin with damp hair that you have added mouse or a root boosting spray to.
Use a medium-sized round brush to dry your hair.
Once hair is all dry, use a light cream to add texture and hold to your hair.
Spray the front of your hair with hairspray so that it stays up and back.

Recommended Products:

Try Bumble and Bumble’s Grooming Cream. It’s light and you can start with a little bit and add more as needed.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have medium to thick hair with a bit of natural wave, this look is for you! A square face shape will be complemented by this style.

#3 Absolutely Asymmetrical

This heavy bang, blunt cut asymmetrical style is the perfect way to show off a fun color. Plus it’s a great way to frame your beautiful face!

3Short-Blunt-Haircut-with-Heavy-Bangs

How To Style:

Begin with dry hair that has been smoothed with a round brush or a paddle brush.
Apply a heat protecting shine serum to the ends of your hair. Use a flat iron to smooth it even further and to define the asymmetry.
If desired, spray everything with a light hold hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Apply a bit of Kevin Murphy’s Young Again Oil before you flat iron. It’s light and won’t make your hair too weighed down. Plus it has a heat protectant in it!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

If you have straight, fine to medium hair, this is a great option for you to try! A round face shape will be complemented by this style.

#4 Straight and Sassy

This textured, straight bob is trendy and really draws attention to your pretty features.

How To Style:

Start with damp hair. Use a medium-sized round brush to dry your hair and get some volume at the roots.
Use a flat iron to smooth out your bangs and, if desired, to straighten out the ends.
Apply a texture cream to the ends and use your fingers to separate the ends and give it more grit and texture.

Recommended Products:

I love Brilliantine by Bumble and Bumble for a texturizer on the ends. It won’t get too sticky or tacky, but will give some great hold and texture to the ends.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Medium to thick hair that’s mostly straight is an ideal hair type for this look. A round face will be complemented by this style.

#5 Face Framing Fringe

This long-fringed look is a great way to draw attention to your cute and trendy short haircut!

How To Style:

Begin with damp hair. Use a round brush to dry your hair and create volume at the roots. Be sure to dry your bangs so that they come down over your forehead and “swoop”.
Use a dry shampoo at your roots to create even more volume.
Spray everything with a light hold hairspray.

Recommended Products:

Kevin Murphy’s Doo Over Spray is such a great tool for building body at the roots. Use it sparingly though — a little bit goes a long way!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Fine hair that’s straight or a little bit wavy is ideal for this look. A square face shape will be complemented by this style.

#6 Soft and Sweet

This adorable short haircut is sweet yet trendy because of the long, side-swept bangs.

How To Style:

Begin with damp hair. Apply a root boosting spray to your roots and use a medium-sized round brush to dry your hair.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

Those with fine hair wanting their hair to look fuller and thicker should give this look a try. A square face shape will be complemented by this style.

#7 The Stackable Bob

Here’s a great, modern twist on the typical bob. When you “stack” the hair in the back of this short haircut, you create layers and extra body in the crown of your head. This look is also great when you add a heavy side fringe in front and some layers to frame your face. Perfecto!

How To Style:

After you have washed your hair, part it to the desired side.
Taking small sections, and using a medium round brush and a blow dryer, dry your hair.
If desired, use a curling iron or flat iron to flip out the ends of a few pieces of hair around your face.

#8 The Perfect Pixie

The pixie cut is back in a big way and if you style it properly, it can be absolutely stunning! This style is so fantastic because you can style it quickly and it frames the face just perfectly.

I love this classic pixie with a bright, blonde color or a rich chocolate brown. Don’t be scared to go extra short and edgy!

How To Style:

Depending on your hair texture, using either a flat paddle brush or your fingers, dry your hair with a blow dryer.
Use a tiny amount of texture paste/cream to define the different lengths in your pixie. Use this sparingly!

Recommended Products:

A good texturizing product is key to transforming your ordinary pixie into something spectacular. I love Styling Wax by Bumble and Bumble.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great for those who want an easy to style look and for those with a fine hair texture. It will flatter a slim, long face.

Tip:

Be sure to go easy on the texturizing product! There is a fine line between styled hair and greased up hair, so be cautious when applying product.

#9 The Chin-Length Bob

With a just little flair, your “typical” bob can look out of this world! I love a good chin-length bob because it draws attention right to the main attraction — your face! With the length being just at your chin, you have many versatile styling options. Pure perfection!

How To Style:

After washing, part hair to the desired side, and either let dry naturally or roughly blow dry it using a paddle brush.
Taking small sections, use a 1¼-inch curling iron to curl your hair.
When all sections have been curled, run your fingers through the curls to loosen them up and spray everything with a light holding spray.

Recommended Products:

I love a good finishing spray that is light and not crunchy feeling. Try Moroccan Oil Medium Hairspray.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is great for those looking to soften any harsh features and it will work well for those with any hair texture.

#10 The Played Up Pixie

This is a variation on the ever-popular pixie. By leaving a little length in the bangs and around the face and keeping the back shorter, this style is trendy and feminine all at the same time!

How To Style:

After washing, apply mousse to the roots and throughout all of your hair.
Using either your fingers, or a small round brush, dry your hair.

Recommended Products:

I love Brilliantine by Bumble and Bumble for a little bit of shine and texture!

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is perfect for those with fine hair and slim face shapes.

Tip:

I love a little bit of messiness with this style. No need to strive for perfection here!

#11 The Banged Up Babe

An extra heavy, straight across bang will add a little pizzaz to an otherwise ordinary cut! Don’t be afraid to add in a chunky highlight or a bold block of color right around your face. You’ll be turning heads all night! And with this short style, you’ll have barely any styling time.

#13 The Layered Lover

If you have short hair that is also fine and can tend to just hang there, then layers in your haircut are the way to go. They will give you body and volume by removing some weight. And there are plenty of fun styling options!

#20The Short ‘n Stacked

Here’s another variation on a stacked haircut. This version is a little shorter with a longer, more dramatic piece in the front. Be sure to keep in mind that haircuts like these lose their shape quicker than a longer, more basic cut, so they need more frequent maintenance!

#23 The Combed Over Cutie

Here’s another look that will turn heads simply due to it’s uniqueness and it’s twist on an asymmetrical style. If your hair is naturally curly, then this style is going to be easy breezy for you! If not, no problem. It’s nothing a little curling iron can’t fix!

25fun-wavy-short-style-with-volume

How To Style:

If your hair is curly, apply a curl-enhancing product after you wash it and allow your natural curl to do its thing! Smooth out the non curly side with a curling iron if desired.
If your hair is not naturally curly, simply blow dry it using your fingers or a round brush. Then, using a 1-inch curling iron, take small sections and curl your hair until it has the fullness and body that’s desired. If necessary, smooth out the non curly side with a flat iron.

Recommended Products:

My naturally curly haired girls have the advantage here. Try Moroccan Oil’s Curl Defining Cream to really make those curls bounce! It adds hydration while defining your natural curl.

Best Face Shape and Hair Type:

This style is ideal for those wanting to balance out any uneven or asymmetrical facial features. It will complement those with curly hair, but if you have straight hair, this style is totally do-able as well!

Tip:

If you have naturally curly hair, be sure to use a diffuser AND curl crème to get the best curl definition.
